For your preschool, preK, kindergarten, or homeschool classroom!

I created this guide to help you use picture books as curriculum in your preschool, preK, kindergarten, or homeschool classroom! This guide will help you easily develop your own satisfying and rich curriculum. Using picture books as the foundation of your curriculum is inexpensive, especially if you use that wonderful resource known as the public library! As a homeschool curriculum, picture books will give you the flexibility you need to suit your family’s beliefs, learning styles, challenges, and family dynamics.

When I first started as a Children’s Librarian, I quickly developed a pattern for themes. It included using purposefully chosen picture books to systematically compliment the activities, songs, and movement of story time. As I progressed into teaching preschool, PreK, and K, I found myself re-writing the curriculum and supplementing with meaningful picture books to enrich the educational experience for my students. When I was asked to teach Picture Books as Curriculum for Central Oregon Community College, I quickly realized not everyone knows how to do this! I found many frustrated teachers and parents that were spending so much money on unsatisfying curriculum and then spending even more for filler options. It doesn’t have to be that way! Using picture books simplfies and customizes your curriculum so you can spend your precious time in learning mode.
