dying tree with a blue sky Judges 16: 20 He did not know that the Lord had left him. Judges 16: 28 Then Samson prayed, Sovereign Lord, please remember me; please, God, give me my strength.

Judges 16: 20

He did not know that the Lord had left him.

Judges 16: 28

Then Samson prayed, Sovereign Lord, please remember me; please, God, give me my strength.

Samson was supernaturally strong. Although he knew he had been dedicated to the Lord, he began to believe the strength was his and the feats he accomplished were by his own power. He failed to remember the Lord, and the Lord withdrew His gifting. Humbled to the point of being violently assaulted leaving him blind and given into slavery, Samson repents and in bold show of God’s force, his strength is returned. Toppling the columns and bringing down a palace during a Philistine party that ultimately takes Samson’s life, he defeats more Philistines in this one act than he did during his lifetime. Perhaps an extreme example, it is a pertinent reminder that our strengths and abilities are given by God to fulfill the purpose He designed for each of us.

When we attempt to live independently away from God, we limit the depth of our strengths.
