This quote reminded me of the day a teacher took a paper heart and violently crumpled into a tight wad in front of her class. Then she opened it back up and tried to smooth it out, but of course the wrinkles were still in the paper. She said, “You can never take back the wrinkles your hasty words might make! Be mindful before you speak.”
My mind was ruffled with small cares to-day,
And I said pettish words, and did not keep
Long-suffering patience well, and now how deep
My trouble for this sin! in vain I weep
For foolish words I never can unsay.
